A Night Of Many Firsts For The Oskaloosa Freshman Team
A night of many firsts as the Oskaloosa Freshman team steps onto the new stadium. Some of the firsts include Andy Ruiz first official snap on the stadium turf. The first rushing yards went to Jared Pace followed quickly by the first tackle by Darin Yang. The first pass came from Ki-Jana DeJong and was caught by Max Johnson for the first touchdown in the stadium. Later in the game the first sack was by Jimmie Brown and the first take away by Ryan Reiter who recovered a fumble.
The freshmen played 4 quarters of continuous clock so they could rotate all of the players to play at least 1 quarter on defense and 1 quarter on offense. By doing this there were a lot of players who participated on both sides of the ball.
On defense there were 17 players who recorded at least one tackle. Kyle Brown led the way with 5, Nate VanVeldhuizen and Dane VerSteegh each had 3 tackles and Jimmie Brown had 2 tackles and a sack, while Ryan Reiter recovered a fumble to help the defense.
The offense was spread amongst several players as well. There were 8 different players who ran with the ball and the leaders were Nate VanVeldhuizen with 136 yards and 2 TD’s followed closely by Jared Pace who had 104 yards and 1 TD and Jimmied Brown with 82 yards and 1 TD. The passing game was led by Ki-Jana DeJong who was 7-10 with 204 yards passing and 3 TD’s and TJ Boyle who also threw for 1 TD. On the receiving end there were 4 different players who caught the ball led by Pace with 123 yards and 2 TD’s followed by Johnson and Schaffner who each had 60 plus yards and 1 TD a piece.
