Cleo was born September 15, 1910, in Keokuk County to Henry D. and Blanche Halfrety Schmidt. She was raised by her paternal grandparents John & Augusta Schmidt. She was united in marriage to Orville Sutton on October 11, 1927 in Sigourney, Iowa. Mrs. Sutton was a homemaker and farm wife. She enjoyed taking care of her family and her home. Together she and her husband farmed in the Martinsburg, Pekin areas until 1969 when they retired and moved into Hedrick. She was a former member of the Jolly Jane Club, O.D.O. of Hedrick, a confirmed and past member of Hedrick Lutheran Church and attended the Hedrick- Martinsburg United Methodist Church. Mrs. Sutton is survived by her children: Dorothy (Carl) Gilbert of Apache Junction, Arizona, Phyllis (Jim) Thompson of Alamo, Texas and Waldo (Beverly) Sutton of Unionville, Missouri; a son-in-law: Eugene “Jeep” Vogel of Hedrick; 8 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter: Lela Vogel; and three grandsons: Roger & Stanley Vogel and David Thompson.
