Parsons, Davis Highlighted in VSN’s Super 72
Oskaloosa–The two most prolific William Penn offensive players from a year ago will begin 2011 considered as some of the best the NAIA has to offer as the Victory Sports Network released its “Super 72” Thursday.
Quarterback Taylor Parsons (So., The Woodlands, Texas, College Parks HS) and runningback Shawn Davis (So., Hamersville, Ohio, Western Brown HS) have both been selected at their respective positions.
Parsons is fifth out of six signal-callers, while Davis is ninth on the nine-person runningback list.
Parsons is coming off a second-team all-Midwest League campaign, highlighted by rushing for 1,010 yards and a program-record 20 touchdowns. He also completed 51-of-97 passes for 901 yards and seven scores.
The sophomore had five 100-plus yard rushing showings, including a season-best 152 against St. Ambrose on October 16. He scored three or more touchdowns in five contests, led by two four-score performances.
Davis, also a 2010 second-team all-conference pick, was even better on the ground with 1,042 yards. He crossed the goal line on 12 occasions last fall.
The sophomore eclipsed the century mark four times with season bests in yards (166) and touchdowns (4) coming against Quincy on September 18.
The duo guided William Penn to the best rushing campaign in NAIA history as the Statesmen broke national records for rushing yards (4,476) and yards per attempt (6.9).
Within the Super 72 is VSN’s Super Six that includes runningback Theron “Junior” Allen of Bethany (Kan.), defensive back Brian Strobel of Carroll (Mont.), quarterback Kaelin Ammons of Georgetown (Ky.), defensive lineman Richard Wick of Missouri Valley, wide receiver Clarence Anderson of Ottawa (Kan.), and linebacker Ricky Wadlington of Belhaven (Miss.).
