Ruth Virginia Baxter, age 91, of Oskaloosa passed away, Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at Mahaska Health Partnership in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She was born January 18, 1920, the daughter of Ralph and Minda Ferguson Derby. On January 18, 1937, she was united in marriage to Clifford Baxter at Ottumwa. Early on they lived in Oskaloosa and Ruth worked at Don’s Diner. Later they moved to a farm near Blakesburg where Ruth stayed home to care for her children and home. In the late 1970’s they moved back to Oskaloosa and she went to work for the Y.M.C.A. for a time. She enjoyed watching television: especially soap operas and baseball. She also enjoyed playing cards and Bingo. She will be remembered as a very loving mother and great grandmother and was always very generous to her family. She is survived by her two daughters: Cheryl (& Ron) Ferree of Oskaloosa and Karen Fleagle of Mt. Pleasant; 6 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 14 great great grandchildren; a brother: Everett Derby of Sigourney; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two daughters: Virginia Baxter and Elizabeth Harkins; a son: Clifford Baxter; a grand daughter; a great grandson; a great great grandson; four sisters; and a brother.
