Floyd was born on August 12, 1922, on a farm west of Cambridge, Iowa to Glenn and Beulah Dunahoo White. He attended rural school and assisted with the family farm operation. On July 2, 1944, he was married to Katherine A. Varnum in Nevada, Iowa. On February 16, 1945, he enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Philippines during World War II. After the war he returned home and the family moved to a farm southeast of Malcom. He was a farmer and also was a mechanic and carpenter. In 1964, he began working for the State of Iowa in the Department of Transportation. Prior to his retirement in 1982 he was a bridge inspector. The family moved to Nevada in 1971 and later resided in Grinnell following his retirement.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Brooklyn American Legion. While living in Malcom he served as Mayor and Fire Chief.

Survivors include his wife, Katherine White of Grinnell; his children, Rita (Larry) Vogel of Malcom, James (Marcia) White of Grinnell, Pat (Wanda) White of Grinnell, Helen (Doug) Starbuck of Nevada; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and one sister, Anne Seversike of Cambridge.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Kevin and Francis White; and two sisters, Mildred White and Katheryn Marlowe.
