Visitation: will begin at 1:00 p.m., Friday afternoon, June 17, 2011 at Garland-Van Arkel Langkamp Funeral Chapel; the family will be present from 5 – 7 p.m. to greet friends and relatives.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., Saturday morning, June 18, 2011 at First Christian Reformed Church with Pastor Alvern Boetsma of the Good News Chapel officiating. A family prayer service will be held in the church basement at 10:15 preceding the funeral service.
Interment: Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

Vera passed away Wednesday morning at Brandermill Woods Healthcare in Midlothian, Virginia at the age of 71 years, 6 months and 12 days.

Vera Joyce Fynaardt, daughter of Marion G. and Jeannetta Monster Vander Linden, was born December 3, 1939 at the rural Runnells, Iowa home of her parents. The family later moved to a farm north of Pella where Joyce attended country school and subsequently moved to the Cedar area where Joyce graduated from Cedar High School in 1958. Following high school, Joyce attended the Reformed Bible Institute in Grand Rapids, Michigan. June 8, 1960, Joyce was united in marriage to Marion Bernard Fynaardt at the Central Reformed Church in Oskaloosa. They returned to Grand Rapids, Michigan, where Bernard was enrolled in Calvin Seminary. After Bernard was ordained in 1965, the first church they served was in Rudyard, MI. Through the years, they served congregations in Lowell, MI; Ireton, IA; Kimberly Village in Davenport, IA; and Ogilvie, MN. In 2000, they retired from the ministry and she and Bernard moved to Glendale, AZ. Following Bernard’s death in 2004, Joyce moved to Pella and eventually to Midlothian, VA to be near her family. Joyce took her role as “pastor’s wife” to heart; she was her husband’s “helpmeet” in the truest sense of the word and complimented him perfectly. When the churches at which they served hired Bernard, they also received a dedicated, talented and compassionate servant. She served as church secretary, organist, pianist, choir director, and led many children and adult bible study groups. Joyce had a passion for music; she loved praising the Lord through instrument and song. She also passed her love of music on to her sons and together they performed in a trumpet trio.

Joyce’s family includes her two sons and their wives: Arlin & Kim Fynaardt of Richmond, VA and Darrell & Michelle Fynaardt of Milwaukee, WI. She was blessed with five grandchildren: Kayla, Spencer, Rylee, Leah and Daniel. She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Marvin Rozenboom of Pella and a brother-in-law, Murray Fynaardt of Oskaloosa.

Besides her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard August 4, 2004.
