Carolyn Kay Welch was born January 8, 1943 at Burlington, Iowa the daughter of Basil and Iola Phyllis Warren Hyde. She graduated from the Memphis High School with the class of 1961, and from the Ottumwa Beauty Academy. On November 11, 1962, Carolyn was united in marriage to Larry Welch in the Memphis Christian Church in Memphis, Missouri. Three children were born to this union, Kevin, Kim and Penny. Later Carolyn and Larry divorced. Carolyn was a homemaker and an Avon representative. She also owned and operated Carol’s Town and Country Beauty Villa in Fremont for twenty years. She was a member of the Fremont Nazarene Church; Eagles Auxiliary of Ottumwa; the Eric Heatherly, Storm Seymour, and Grand Ole Opry Fan Clubs, and was active in the Democratic Party. She loved her cats, country music, Elvis, cooking and camping. Her family includes her children: Kevin (& B.J. )Welch of Albia, Kim (& Jim) Koellner of Eddyville, and Penny (& Darren) Hance of Oskaloosa; five grandsons and two granddaughters; a great granddaughter; and her step mother, Loretta Hyde of Pella. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents;and her fiancee; Delmer Collier. Memorials may be made to the Animal Humane Society.
