Mahaska Y and Edmundson Pool Offer Aerobics Class
Oskaloosa, June 7, 2011 – The Mahaska County YMCA will be offering a water aerobics class at the Edmundson pool this summer. The class starts Monday, June 13, and will be held on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:15-7:00 pm. Y members may attend the class at no cost but must present their Y membership card. Anyone who is a member of Edmundson or pays the daily drop in fee may also participate in the class at no charge.
“The class is being held during normal pool hours so if your children are old enough to swim unattended, they can swim while you are in the class,” said Dawn Collins, Y Executive Director. “Our staff is continually exploring opportunities to collaborate and better serve the community, and we are grateful City leadership is willing to try this with us.
This may be a new water aerobics opportunity but water and swimming opportunities are not new to the Y. “Swimming is a fun and enjoyable activity for children and adults alike, and it has many health benefits,” said Mica Cavin, Y Aquatics Coordinator. “The Y is committed to providing as many opportunities as possible for everyone to learn basic swimming lessons and water safety practices. We encourage kids and adults to take swim lessons – it’s never too late to learn.” The Y encourages kids and adults to have fun when in and around the water, but to always make safety their first priority. To ensure that everyone has an opportunity to participate, financial assistance is available to those in need to help cover the costs.
As a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the Y works to ensure everyone has an opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. This philosophy drives the Mahaska County YMCA’s commitment to help children and adults experience the joy and benefits of swimming.
