Roy Moore Informs Oskaloosans About Him And His Possible Presidential Run

Roy Moore arrives to a crowd of 30 residents on April 18, 2011, just hours after announcing the formation of his Presidential Exploratory Committee

Oskaloosa– Arriving to Osky after dining with some supporters, Roy Moore was unusually late. Supporters had caught up with Moore, during what had been planned as a private lunch, after hearing his announcement, earlier in the day on WHO Radio, about him creating a presidential exploratory committee and his ambitions to run for President for 2012.

Judge Moore came to the spotlight in November of 2003 when he was removed from his position for refusing to have the Ten Commandments removed, even after being told to do so by a Federal Judge.

Fast forward to 2010 and Judge Moore spends time in Iowa and Oskaloosa, speaking on behalf of the Peacemakers Institute concerning gay marriage and the state of the judicial system and government.

Moore spoke for 40 minutes to the crowd of the nearly 30 local residents gathered in the meeting room at Smokey Row.

“We’ve got problems. We’re tired of politicians saying one thing, then doing something else. We’re tired of politicians that are out for one thing, and one thing only; staying in office instead of doing what’s right.” Moore said of the current political environment. “Why am I running? Do I want to stay in office?” Moore asked those in attendance. “I gave up my office. I gave up Chief Justice. Nobody can accuse me of staying in office. About 2003, 8 years ago, I walked out of the highest office (in the) state in the judicial branch. You ask any lawyer, what do you aspire to, besides the Supreme Court of the United States. Chief Justice is a high position. It’s higher, in effect, than the governor. You know why? Once you get there, you don’t get kicked out; except in Iowa.” “That is a very high job, so don’t ever think that I want an office for power. I’ve had it.” Moore continued, speaking of the time when he stood on his moral principles over the Ten Commandments memorial at the Alabama Supreme Court.

“If we continue to let people like Barack Obama in office, we’ll suffer the consequences, as we are suffering them, and will continue to suffer them.” Moore said of his belief that people are in office only for the power. “We didn’t need our congress to vote all these free trade agreements that have taken all our manufacturing jobs South.” “When we taxed and regulated our business out of operation, they wanted to leave; and they did leave and got cheap labor and still (got to) sell their goods, cause it’s free trade. How do you like that for free?” “We can bring manufacturing jobs back to this county. It’s not going to be by handing out money which causes our inflation to go up; and printing dollar bills without any backing and causing a debt that will cause us to go bankrupt; and then asking for a higher debt limit, which they are about to do by the way. That’s not going to solve any problems.” Moore said of the current economy. Moore offered the following solution to the problem, “Turn back to the one upon whom it was all based, and that’s not just a religious sermon, that’s a recognition of your Constitution, it’s a recognition of separation of powers.” “Put your country first.” Moore said.

Judge Roy Moore visits with residents during his recent stop in Oskaloosa on April 18th, 2011

Local resident Justin Gordon asked Moore, “Being that the founders worked from the Judeo-Christian framework, and that allowed for religious pluralism, freedom to worship any other god even if you disagree. Would this nation still be founded the same way to allow that freedom based on any other framework? Say Islam for example.” Judge Moore responded, “Absolutely Not. Absolutely Not. Do you think in Islamic countries they allow freedom of religion? You go to Afghanistan and pull out a Bible, or Saudi Arabia. They’ll put you in jail. If you try to convert one of them, they’ll cut your head off.” Moore said of the founding of the United States on the freedom that God gives.

I asked Judge Moore when the exploratory portion of this would come to an end. “When you say I am running.” Moore explained. So to follow that up, I asked him if he had a time frame of when he would make the actual announcement that he would be running for President. Moore answered, “No I don’t, this is the first day of the exploratory committee so I can’t say.”

Judge Moore said that he would cut the size of government, cut the wasteful spending and  remove the unnecessary programs.

I also asked Moore about “Obamacare” and how he would handle that. “I hope it’s declared unconstitutional.” Moore continued on that subject by saying, “I think it’s a travesty, socialized medicine.”

Asking the former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice about Islamic law being integrated into our law, such as Sharia. “I’m very much opposed to Sharia Law. In fact, The Foundation for Moral Law, which I head as the President, has just written a brief in Oklahoma. There was a law in an Oklahoma bill, that passed, (that said) they couldn’t incorporate Sharia Law, and the court struck it down. I disagree with the court, and it’s on appeal, so we filed a brief in that case and trust it will be overruled.” “Sharia Law is basically a dictation of another religion in our law, and we certainly don’t need that. Historically, the courts have said you can’t have anything religious in your law. Now their going to let Sharia Law come in, I don’t think so.”

I asked Judge Moore if he believes that there will be any repercussions against him for standing on his religious beliefs, such as he did in Alabama, and how it will play out in his Presidential bid? He responded, “I can’t answer for the voters, what they vote for. I can only say what I did. I took a stand for what I believe, what this country was founded upon, and I lost my job over it. Now I think we need more politicians who will take a stand for what they believe and lose their job over it, if it takes that, not those that keep their job for standing up for things that the country wasn’t founded upon.”
