Reynolds Breaks School Mark at Jim Duncan Invite

William Penn University Athletics

Des Moines–Despite competing in less than desirable conditions over the weekend, William Penn still placed high in several events at the Jim Duncan Invitational hosted by Drake.

Five individuals managed to post seven top-ten finishes in their respective events, led by a gold from Nick Reynolds (Jr., Riverton, Utah, Iowa Western CC) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Reynolds defeated the entire field with a school-record time of 9:43.78, surpassing the old record of 9:51 by Eric Graham in 1997.

Sprinter Gabriel Green (So., Anniston, Ala., Anniston HS) had a great day as well, placing fourth in the 100-meter dash in a time of 10.90 seconds and fifth in the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.28 seconds.

Fellow Statesmen Royce Clay (Sr., Miami, Fla., Booker T. Washington HS) had two top tens in the horizontal jumps, taking fourth in the triple at 45-5.25 and seventh in the long at 21-3.25.

One week removed from breaking the school’s discus and hammer records, Rachel Butler (Sr., Orange County, Calif., Calvary Chapel Downey HS) took home bronze in the javelin with a toss of 113-2.

Jonathan Pope (Sr., Starkville, Miss., Starkville HS) soared over the 6-2 mark to place eighth in the high jump.

There were also a handful of season bests reported by William Penn athletes over the weekend.

On the men’s side, Kipp Schuler (Sr., Haviland, Kan., Dana) finished the 5,000-meter run in 15:53.75, while Keaton Studebaker (Fr., Ogden, Utah, Weber HS) had a time of 34:12.48 in the 10,000-meter run. Walter Herron (Jr., Houston, Texas, Westfield HS) tossed the javelin to a mark of 129-6.

As for the Lady Statesmen, Nicole Rogge (Fr., Glendale, Ariz., Apollo HS) completed the 5,000-meter run in a time of 20:55.21 and Jessica Bixler (Sr., Oskaloosa, Oskaloosa HS) recorded a mark of 14-7 in the long jump.

Next: William Penn will send most of its competitors to Pella Thursday for the Central Invitational. Some others will trek to Des Moines Wednesday and Thursday for the Midwest Collegiate Conference Multi-Events.
