Saturday – The Easter Egg Hunts vs The Weather

Bank Iowa's Easter Egg Hunt has been going strong for over 10 years now, and the looks on these little faces shows why.

With so many activities fighting mother nature on Saturday, it is amazing how many young people braved the cold wind in order to race across an open field in the quest for the most eggs.

Bank Iowa started their hunt at 10:30, with the age groups being broken up into two sections. Bank Iowa has held their Easter Egg hunt for over 10 years now, and it has continued to grow every year since the start.

Bank Iowa put out over 4000 chocolate and nickel filled eggs. Imagine the Possibilities fills the eggs, then Bank Iowa throws those that helped to fill the eggs a pizza party as a thank you for their hard work. Along with Bank Iowa, additional sponsors of the event are: Mahaska Drug, Slumberland, Dollar General, Breadeaux Pisa, Tyler Groenendyk Racing, Orscheln, KBOE, KISS FM, First Assembly of God-Oskaloosa, Imagine the Possibilities, Champion Storage & Signs and Mahaska Masters 4-H Club.

The Mahaska Masters 4-H Club helped to spread the eggs around the field for the big event. This was their 3rd year of helping out. Charles Jones takes the time to rope off the area’s for the hunt.

With the blast of the horn, the eggs were found in around 5 minutes time. So with a wave good-bye from the Easter Bunny, everyone ran off to find a warm spot.

Then, just a few short minutes later, the YMCA held their annual Easter Egg hunt at their location.

The Y held a morning full of activities and learning for all ages, starting at 9 a.m. and going until noon. Those activities included a Mahaska Health Partnership area (they helped to co-sponsor the event), vendor tables, an open swim, bounce house, a coloring room and the racquet ball court was open. At 9:45 a.m. was the Knock Out contest, and 11:00 brought the drawings for the door prizes.

The Easter Bunny also stopped by the YMCA to spread even more joy around Oskaloosa.

The Y’s Easter Egg hunts also began at 11:00 a.m. starting with the zero to Pre-K kids, and 11:15 was the K to 2nd Grade kids turn. Finishing up the hunt at 11:30 was the 3rd to 6th Graders.

The Y finished up their Healthy Kids Day with a 1 Mile Fun Run.

They would like to thank the following businesses/contributors for their support: Breadaux Pisa, Browns Shoe Fit, Dairy Queen, Family Video, Fareway, Mi Ranchito, Musco, Pizza Ranch, Regis Salon, Smokey Row, Subway, Swim’s Sports, Tasos, Tyler Sash, and William Penn Athletics.
