Students Help Students At Oskaloosa Elementary Read-A-Thon

Students of Mrs. VandeVoort's 1st Grade Class joined Mrs. VanWaardhuizen's 5th Grade Class for 30 minutes of reading on Wednesday afternoon.
Once a year, the Oskaloosa PTO sponsors a read-a-thon to help raise money for special events and equipment that directly impacts the students at the elementary. Wednesday April 13th was, once again, that day at the Oskaloosa Elementary School.
The students pledged to read one hour during the day in return for the pledged donations. The day also involved being able to wear their PJ’s to school. In the case of some older students, they had the opportunity to pair up with some younger students to read with them, while many local “Celebrities” and high school students also got to share in the joy of reading.
The 5th grade class of Mrs. VanWaardhuizen welcomed the 1st grade class of Mrs. VandeVoort for 30 minutes of shared reading time. A 1st grader chose an older 5th grade student to be their reading buddy for that 30 minutes of time. The larger classes broke down into the pairs of readers, giving the opportunity for some of the older students to help lead and guide a younger reader.
