Central men’s tennis squad blanks Simpson
INDIANOLA—Turning in the kind of showing coach Steve Tyler envisioned in the preseason, the Central College men’s tennis team shut out Simpson College 9-0 Tuesday.
After sweeping the doubles competition, the Dutch won five of six singles matches in straight sets.
“We are hitting our stride,” Tyler said. “We came out at No. 1, 2 and 3 doubles and took care of business. Simpson is improved. They’re top players are pretty solid. But we’re playing real well right now.”
Dan Bowser (senior, Fort Dodge) had the longest match, outlasting Adam Summitt 5-7, 6-2, 10-6. Tyler also singled out Seth Harris (junior, Waverly, Neb.) for a significant victory at No. 2, 6-4, 6-0.
“That was a good win for Seth,” Tyler said. “And we’re really playing well at the bottom of the order. That’s fun to see. We know we can win most of the time down there.”
Central (8-12 overall, 7-11 spring) closes out the dual meet season Saturday at Storm Lake against Buena Vista Univ. (3-8) starting at 11 a.m.
