School to begin Thursday

Oskaloosa Iowa Elementary School

Oskaloosa Iowa Elementary School start of 2010-2011 school year.

The day in which parents can celebrate is almost here. School is set to begin tomorrow. For some parents it may be tearful day due to their first born going to school for the first time ever. For others it may be a day to rejoice after a long summer.

For high school students it could be a big day as well. For freshman, the day that they will be initiated by scrubbing the Indian Head, for seniors the day to put freshman on the Indian Head,  sign the Senior Pole and participate in other senior traditions. Students may be finding big changes in their school as well.

The elementary school is welcoming a new principal, Josh Manning.  They will also be welcoming Valerie Van Maanen, Pamela Chapman, Jordan Jaspering, Stacey Veiseth, and Shannon Kerper all as new elementary teachers. They will also welcome two new special education teachers. In addition, when parents go to drop off their children, they will be greeted by a new landscaping project done earlier in the summer.

At the middle school, Mr. Donald Bell will be welcomed as the new industrial arts teacher. Students at the middle school will also continue to see advancements in technology as they will be adding more promothesian boards to classrooms.

At the high school, besides the previously discussed initiation traditions, the high school will welcome a new at risk counselor, and a new part time math teacher. Students will also have the honor of breaking in a new cell phone policy. Students will now be allowed to use their cell phones during the 5 minutes passing time between classes.

We at Osky News would like to remind residents on the school bus policy. If a bus has its flashing amber or red lights on and stop arm out, you may NOT pass it. You must also remain stopped as long as the red lights are on or the stop arm is out.  The fine for illegally passing a school bus is $182.
