Oskaloosa Lions Club to host Leader Dogs

The Oskaloosa Lions Club will be hosting a program on Leader Dogs for the Blind on Tuesday April 12, 2011, at 7 p.m. at the Pizza Ranch. If you know anyone visually impaired or just curious about how these dogs are trained as seeing-eye dogs, come to this meeting and meet one of the puppies in training. These puppies are raised by volunteer raisers as well as inmates at the prisons in Rockwell City and Newton. When their training is complete, they are matched to visually impaired persons at no charge. When they can no longer perform their duties, they are adopted to families who apply for these retired dogs. This should be a very interesting program!
