Oskaloosa City Manager Michael Schrock meets with the Mahaska County Supervisors over annexation

The Mahaska County Supervisors met in regular session starting at 9:00 a.m. Monday morning.

• Mahaska County Sanitarian Eric Dursky addressed concerns with illegal septic systems along Carbanado Road in Oskaloosa. An informational meeting on the subject, with local officials, is scheduled for those seeking further information.
• Mahaska County Agricultural and Rural Development gave their monthly report on the many projects and grants they are currently working on.
• Mahaska County Conservation gave their monthly report detailing recent activities and public events, including the recent maple syrup event held over the weekend.
• Supervisors approved the amendment to the 28E Agreement for cooperative use of the 1 cent sales tax with the Oskaloosa School District.
• In a split vote, the Supervisors agreed to a 28E Agreement with Central Iowa Detention. Those voting in favor were Rozenboom and Gordy, with VanWeelden voting against the agreement. The debate is on the use of either the South Iowa Detention Center or Central Iowa Detention and has been a source of disagreement within the board. Both services offer juvenile detention services, with Mahaska County currently sending juvenile’s to the Central Iowa Detention facility.
• Supervisors met with Oskaloosa City Manager, Michael Schrock, over annexation property in the area of the Lacy Complex that totals 373.34 acres in size. Of the property owners that will be included in the annex, 86.4 percent of the residents would allow annexation voluntarily while 13.6 are involuntary.
• Public hearings for the updated Flood Plain Ordinance are set for April 18th, May 2nd, and finally May 16th during the normal Supervisor meetings on those days. An example, of how far the expanded flood plain goes, is that it now reaches to the bottom of the hill by William Penn University.
• The Supervisors also discussed bridge repairs to 3 county bridges with County Engineer Jerry Nusbaum. The 3 bridges are as follows:

1. Cordova Ave. between 280th and 285th
2. Hickory Ave. at Truax
3. 150th between Yale Ave. and the Keokuk County line
