GREEN DAY: FANS INVITED FOR “GREEN OUT” AT JUNE 25 IOWA CORN INDY 250 PRESENTED BY PIONEER
NEWTON, Iowa (March 17, 2011) – Today is all about celebrating everything green – as is the Iowa Corn Indy 250.
The Iowa Speedway and Iowa Corn are proud to announce the June 25 Iowa Corn Indy 250 will not only be under the lights, but the stands will be filled with green.
Fans are urged to take part in a “green out” in the grandstands as a way of supporting the thrilling IZOD IndyCar Series race, Iowa Corn, and the “green” fuel – corn ethanol.
“What a better way to showcase a race running on a renewable “green” fuel than by filling the stands with green shirts,” said Carrie Dodds, Iowa Corn Market Development Manager and staff lead on the Iowa Corn Indy 250. “Green corn, green fuel, green flag, and now you can wear your green shirt.”
The IndyCar Series switched to 100 percent fuel grade ethanol in the 2006 season.
Last season, the IndyCar Series used approximately 70,000 gallons of ethanol. Without losing any horsepower or speed on the track, IndyCar Series cars burn approximately 20,000 fewer gallons of fuel using ethanol than previous seasons.
