Central opens women’s golf spring season in California

BEAUMONT (CALIF.)—In its first competitive outing since October, the Central College women’s golf team stands fourth after the first round of the SoCal Dutch Invitational in Beaumont, Calif. Playing host, the Dutch shot 371 on the par-72 Oak Valley Golf Club.

Whitman College (Wash.) leads the field with 332 followed closely by the Univ. of Redlands (Calif.) with 334. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (Calif.) shot 343 and Occidental College (Calif.) is at 414.

Leading the Dutch with a 91 are Sarah Paulson (junior, Ottumwa), 47-44, and Allison Crooks (senior, Moline, Ill.), 45-46. Kaurie Kincaid (sophomore, Knoxville) shot 93, Ali Miller (junior, Davenport, North HS) at 96 and Kara Stadtlander (sophomore, Manning, IKM-Manning HS) at 98. Playing as individuals, Christina Lee (sophomore, Huxley, Ballard HS) and Katelyn Paul (freshman, Maquoketa) shot 105.

“It was our first round in five months and it clearly showed,” coach Tim Wilkinson said. “I didn’t expect a fantastic outing. As long as we improve tomorrow will be a good day.”

The 36-hole tournament concludes Wednesday.
