Lt Governor Patty Judge makes stop at Smokey Row

Lt Gov Patty Judge and State Senator Tom Rielly

Lt Governor Patty Judge made a lunchtime stop at Oskaloosa’s Smokey Row to help drum up support and encourage supporters.

Governor Culver and Patty Judge are running for their second term together. They covered some of the highlights from the debate between incumbent Chet Culver (D) and challenger Terry Branstad (R). They feel good and confident after the debate and more energized to take the debate to the streets.

Patty was here to pass out yard signs, bumper stickers and other advertisements. Bumper stickers work best when they are applied to cars, they have very little value in drawers joked Patty Judge. She spoke of what she believes were not truthful statements by the Republican’s and Terry Branstad in trying to mislead voters. Another of their projects is making sure that they let the public know their message, getting out the vote and signing up people for early voting absentee ballot on September 23. She then stated that Chet Culver/Patty Judge ticket were not going to loose the election. They are focusing on making more campaign stops just like the one today, and Patty has challenged Governor Culver to keep up with her.

State Senator Tom Rielly finished up the conversation with some of the accomplishments he felt good about from the last legislative session. He spoke of how the they Iowa Legislature was able to wrap up in 79 days. Senator Rielly spoke of past debts and how America is now strapped with all this debt to the Chinese. He said he was frustrated with policy and people’s desire to go back in time to when debt went unchecked. He spoke of how the budget has decreased under this administration by nearly half a billion over the past administration. Former Governor Tom Vilsack (D) was current Governor Chet Culvers predecessor.  Sen. Tom Rielly touted the legislatures ability to balance Iowa’s budget this year, and how Iowa has a AAA bond rating.

So, the campaign season is in full swing, with statements and accusations from both sides, this political season appears to be on track for one of the most hotly contested in nearly a century as the divide between Democrat’s and Republican’s has never been wider. The conservative Tea Party movement is adding a interesting facet to this years election.
