Statesmen Denied Homecoming Shocker of MNU

Oskaloosa–The William Penn women’s soccer team could not come up with the upset on Homecoming as it fell 5-0 to No. 15 MidAmerica Nazarene in Heart of America Athletic Conference play Saturday.

WPU (6-8-2, 3-7-2 Heart), which was outshot 16-7 by the Pioneers (11-3-2, 8-3-1 Heart), came out of the gate on the slow side as the visitors punched in a goal just 6:03 into the contest.

Goals in the 28th and 29th minutes put the navy and gold in a 3-0 hole at halftime.

Unfortunately, it did not get better for WPU after intermission as MNU tallied two more times to finish off the scoring.

The duo of Mollie Briscoe (Fr., Euxton, England, New Media) and Heidi Gill (Buncrana, Ireland, Exercise Science) guided William Penn with two shots each.

Emma Billings (Jr., Salt Lake City, Utah, Psychology) finished with six saves in a busy matchup.

Next Up: William Penn remains in Oskaloosa next Wednesday, hosting Grand View in Heart action at 5 p.m.
