William Penn Tops Home Event
Oskaloosa–The Statesmen shotgun sports team defended its home range as it won the William Penn Invitational Friday through Sunday.
WPU posted a winning score of 1,398-for-1,500 as five programs competed in the disciplines of Skeet, Sporting Clays, and Trap.
The navy and gold tallied a winning Skeet score of 490-for-500 with Colton Heintz-Kuderer (Jr., Mabel, Minn., Biology) leading the charge at 99-for-100.
The trio of Hunter Stenoien-Bowen (Sr., Avoca, Iowa, Engineering Technology), Izaac Zihlman (Fr., Mount Pleasant, Iowa, Business Management), and Trenton Giese (So., Muskego, Wis., Mechanical Engineering) were next at 98-for-100.
Four individuals tied for the final Skeet score of 97-for-100, including Brendan Becker (Fr., Genoa City, Wis., Business Management), Mason Drout (Fr., Muskego, Wis., Mechanical Engineering), Mason Ward (Grad., Twin Falls, Idaho, Master’s of Organizational Leadership), and Trenton Hol (Fr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Industrial Technology).
Trenton Giese’s score of 88-for-100 paced William Penn in Sporting Clays. Overall, the team won the discipline at 422-for-500.
Cade Bowie (Sr., Benton, Ark., Business Management) was in the runner-up spot at 85-for-100, while Connor Gittings (Sr., Kansas City, Mo., Biology) finished at 84-for-100 and Ward produced a score of 83-for-100.
Sholes, Heintz-Kuderez, and Ian Darragh (Fr., Eagle, Idaho, Business Management) all tied at 82-for-100 as well.
Angie Wolfert (Sr., Waterford, Wis., Nursing) guided the navy and gold in Trap at 98-for-100, while WPU was first as a squad at 486-for-500.
The quintet of Trenton Giese, Gittings, Zihlman, Wyatt Kresser (Jr., Independence, Iowa, Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management), and Brianna Giese (Fr., Muskego, Wis., Nursing) all ended up with tallies of 97-for-100.
Trenton Giese headlined the High Overall Athlete standings at 283-for-300. William Penn owned 10 of the top 12 placings, including Zihlman, Ward, Sholes, Heintz-Kuderer, and Gittings tying for third at 274-for-300.
Three solid scores helped Emily Sjoberg (So., Citrus Heights, Calif., Business Management) to a runner-up position in the Female HOA rankings at 267-for-300. The sophomore was two shots behind the champion. Brianna Giese took fourth (264-for-300) and Nikolle Kussatz (Jr., Leighton, Iowa, Biology) was fifth (263-for-300).
“Our depth was again evident this weekend,” Head Coach Colten Uitermarkt said. “More of our athletes are reaching that competitive level. I am excited to get back to practice and work out those final few targets as a team. Everyone is pushing each other to hit new heights. I am loving our passion and drive.”
Next Up: William Penn travels to Grand Island, Neb. Saturday and Sunday to compete in the Hastings Invitational.
