Three Wins for Statesmen at Musco Twilight

Iowa City–The William Penn men’s track and field team came away with three event victories as it competed at the Musco Twilight hosted by Iowa Saturday.

The three titles were collected by the middle distance and distance runners of D’Artagnon Beaver (Jr., Rockford, Ill., Human Services), Jonah Heckenberg (Sr., Stockport, Iowa, Business Management), and Carson Springer (Fr., Grimes, Iowa, Business Management).

Beaver continues his monumental season with the 3,000-meter steeplechase gold in a time of 9:34.46, while Springer was the victor in the 3,000-meter run in 9:40.20.

Heckenberg hit the line first as well, doing so in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.82.

Nick Marshall (Jr., Glenpool, Okla., Human Services) and Rayan Antonia (So., Willensted, Curacao, Business Management) just missed crowns of their own. Marshall was second in the javelin at 136-2, and Antonia ended up in the runner-up position in the 100-meter dash in 11.55 seconds.

Bennett Polite (Jr., Kearney, Mo., Fine Arts) was right next to Antonia in the 100 standings, taking third in 11.56 seconds.

Marshall also placed ninth in the hammer throw at 169-10.

“This weekend was all about executing,” Head Coach Victoria Vinokur said. “Especially the way the weather was, to execute on a day like today sets our athletes up to perform really well in warmer meets down the stretch. Carson Springer highlighted this weekend. He has been a PR machine all season.”

Next Up: William Penn may look to split its squad next week. Most individuals will head to Indianola Thursday through Saturday to compete in the Simpson Kip Janvrin Open, while some may go to Des Moines on those same days to participate in the Drake Relays.
