William Penn Claims Tabor Title for Second Win in a Row
Hesston, Kan.–With all five of its linksters in the top 11, the Statesmen women’s golf team earned its second-straight win, taking down the competition at the Tabor Spring Shootout Monday.
William Penn placed first out of four teams with a two-round score of 658 (329-329) at the par-71 Hesston Golf Course. Baker finished second at 669 (329-340).
The tournament was originally slated for two days, but weather forced all of the play onto Monday with participants golfing 36 holes.
Ashlee Johnson of Southwestern (Kan.) topped the 32-individual field at 157 (78-79), while the navy and gold were guided by Olivia Lange (Jr., Buckeburg, Germany, Business Management) and Olivia Cramer (Jr., Lawton, Mich., Civil Engineering) who tied for third at 163.
Lange carded an 80 in her first round and then ended up at 83 in her second 18, while Cramer recorded scores of 81 and 82 to match her teammate.
Emma Lawson (Jr., Rossville, Ind., Exercise Science) was next at 166 to place seventh, including a first-round tally of 78 (second round was 88). Carlee Frayne (Sr., Garner, Iowa, Sport Management) placed ninth overall at 171 (90-81), and Riley Burns (Jr., Edwardsville, Ill., Elementary Education) completed the varsity at 173 (90-83) to tie for 11th.
Bliss Martin (So., Hamilton, Ill., Biology) had a strong outing as WPU’s individual, finishing eighth at 167 (84-83).
“I am excited to get another positive result with the ladies,” Head Coach Elise Warne said. “Olivia Cramer and Olivia Lange tying for third was great, while Emma Lawson really had a special day by breaking her own 18 and 36-hole collegiate records.”
“We had some struggles and did not perform to the level we expect, but it was another opportunity for our women to learn and grow,” Warne added. “We are excited to travel to Oklahoma next week and build on our season.”
Next Up: William Penn travels to Oklahoma City, Okla. next Monday and Tuesday to compete in the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic hosted by Oklahoma City. Play will be contested at Lincoln Park Golf Course.
