William Penn Competes in Final Tourney of Regular Season
Des Moines–The Statesmen women’s wrestling team sent a number of athletes onto the mat for one final regular season tournament as it competed in the Grand View Open Saturday.
101-pounder Teya Garner (Fr., San Antonio, Texas, Biology) headlined the navy and gold results as she finished fourth. After dropping her first bout, the freshman won her next three matches–all by fall–to reach the consolation finals.
116-pounder Catherine Steinkamp (Jr., Quincy, Ill., Exercise Science), 123-pounder Brittany Cotter (Jr., Katy, Texas, Nursing), and 143-pounder Naida Abdijanovic (So., St. Louis, Mo., Biology) also all won one time Saturday.
The aforementioned grapplers competed in the Gold division, but there was also a Silver division. Kaylah Johnson (So., Houston, Texas, Biology) was WPU’s best Silver division wrestler with a pair of victories at 155 pounds, while 109-pounder Rachel Cotter (So., Katy, Texas, Public Accounting) pinned one foe as well.
