Statesmen of the Week: Keaten Griffen and Mia Palumbo
Men’s track and field athlete Keaten Griffen (So., Longview, Texas, Industrial Technology) and women’s wrestler Mia Palumbo (Jr., Oak Lawn, Ill., Exercise Science) have been named Statesmen of the Week for the week of November 27-December 3, presented by Gardner-Collier Jewelry.
Griffen set a new school record in the indoor pole vault at the Northwest Missouri State Mel Tjeerdsma Classic last Saturday, breaking his own mark with a height of 14-9. His efforts placed him first in the competition.
Palumbo crushed her opposition at the Doane Conner/Oppenheim Open last Saturday. The 109-pounder went 4-0 to claim her third title in as many tournaments. Now 12-0 on the season, she defeated #15 Alexsys Jacquez of Saint Mary (Kan.) by technical fall 14-4 in the finals.
