William Penn Qualifies for Match Play at Warhawk Open

The Statesmen women’s bowling team was able to extend its weekend into match play, but failed to pull off any upsets as it battled at the Warhawk Open Saturday and Sunday.
WPU placed sixth out of 21 teams with 7,940 pins in six regular games and 16 Baker games. Mount Mercy was first in qualifying with 8,563 pins, but #2 seed Davenport (Mich.) took home the team crown by defeating #4 seed St. Ambrose 2-1 in the finals.
The navy and gold advanced to the eight-team bracket event, but were knocked out in the quarterfinals 2-0 (183-201, 167-220) by #3 Calumet-St. Joseph (Ind.).
Jazmin Koeberl was first out of 179 individuals with a 201.3 average in qualifying (1,208 pins), while Kelcey Aczon (So., Las Vegas, Nev., Nursing) led the Statesmen by taking 25th with a 176.0 average (1,056 pins).
Gabi Evans (Sr., West Liberty, Iowa, Psychology and Sociology) also started all six games and managed a 172.2 clip.
Sammantha Meyers (Jr., Rockford, Ill., Elementary Education) was next with a 185.0 average in four rounds, while the quartet of Cydnee Whiteleather (Sr., Lehigh Acres, Fla., Elementary Education) (175.3), Lucy Mitchell (Fr., Poulsbo, Wash., Psychology) (172.7), Madison Ross (Sr., Charles City, Iowa, Exercise Science) (165.7), and Christy Mottier (Sr., Madison, Wis., Business Management) (161.7) all rolled in three games.
Caitlin Radliff (Jr., Belleville, Ill., Software Engineering) completed William Penn’s scoring with a 146.5 mark (two games).
“The ladies performed well, including having a strong day on Sunday,” Head Coach Kirstin Foster said. “They are starting to hit their stride and show what kind of team they can be. We are still working on making improvements, but we are coming into our own. This was a good performance heading into the Las Vegas tournaments.”
Next Up: William Penn will take two weeks off before traveling to Las Vegas, Nev. December 18-19 to compete in the Glenn Carlson Las Vegas Invitational.
