Our election opinion poll results

Voting Booth

For over a week we ran an early unscientific poll asking people to let their vote speak early for their choices on the upcoming November election. From the numbers it appears that the Republican’s are holding most races with the exception of Sone Scott the incumbent for Mahaska County Treasurer. The lead in that race is 6% with 50 votes cast it was 26 for Scott and 24 for Frankenfelt.

Mahaska County Supervisor also appears to be interesting with Reg Randau (I) coming in second at 48%, with Republican Ken Rozenboom leading the candidates with 64% of the votes cast. Incumbent Republican Supervisor Greg Gordy recorded a mere 23% in voting. If your wondering how the percentages would equal over 100%, people were allowed to vote for more than 1 candidate in this poll, as when voting in November, residents will be able to vote for 2 as well.

Iowa House District voting went all Republican, with some races closer than others. Republican incumbent Rich Arnold of House District 72 is in a tight race with Democratic challenger Deb Ballallatak. Arnold won with the slimmest of the margins in this category of voting with just a 3 vote lead in the 47 votes cast. House District 75 is showing some signs as well that the fight for the state house is alive in well here. Currently Republican challenger Guy Vander Linden is showing some strength here according to our voters recording a 29 to 22 vote victory over incumbent Eric Palmer. Betty De Boef, inducement from House District 76 garnered a large percentage of voters for her district in the unscientific poll over Democratic challenger Nathan Clubb. The Republican incumbent raked in 32 votes to Clubb’s 17.

The vote for state offices were Republican favored as well. (*) indicates the incumbent.

The race for Governor of Iowa appears to be an uphill climb this year for Chet Culver (D). With a 37% approval rating according to Rasmussen, the voting in our unscientific poll seemed to be in line with their poll numbers for voting as well. Republican challenger Terry Branstad had a double digit lead in our voting poll and Rasmussen shows similar polling numbers with numbers being 52% for Branstad and Culver at 36%. 3rd party candidates held 8% in the same poll. Our unscientific poll shows similar results with Branstad getting 55% (29 votes) to Culvers 38% (20 votes) Independent candidate Jonathan Narcisse received 8% of our voters support (4 votes)

We move on to the congressional races, where things here seem to be more uncertain for the US House 3rd Congressional District. With recent polls showing incumbent Leonard Boswell trailing challenger Brad Zaun in this race, our unscientific poll was near those results as well. Those that participated in our poll voted for Brad Zaun 56% or 31 votes to Boswell’s 44% or 24 votes. This continues to the trend of an uphill battle for the Democratic Party during these mid-term elections.

The race for Iowa’s Senate seat seems to be leaning once again towards the incumbent Chuck Grassley (R). Rasmussen polls found him with a 55% to 35% advantage over his challenger in Roxanne Conlin (D). Our voters fell in line with those numbers as well 58% or 29 voters to Conlin’s 42% and 21 votes.

We hope to conduct our poll again about 2 weeks before the general election on the 2nd of November to see how voter sentiment may have changed during the time leading up to then. If you have any questions or comments feel free to contact us at info@oskynews.org.

Also, if you are a candidate or represent one, and you have not heard from us, or gotten a questionnaire from us, please let us know so we can more easily communicate so you have the option of being heard here the same as any other candidate. info@oskynews.org
