Supervisors Work Through Busy Agenda

April 19th, 2023

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Mahaska County Supervisors met in regular session on Monday, April 17th, 2023, in the 3rd-floor conference room.

The Board approved the April 3rd, 4th, and 10th meeting minutes. They also approved the bills for March of 2023.

The Board accepted the 3rd quarter reports from the Recorder and the Sheriff.

The Board tabled items about the Buchanan proposal and the quarterly review from Carosh Compliance Solutions.

The Board moved forward with the Insurance Committee recommendations for the fiscal year of 2024, which included no change to the employee contribution amounts and will be re-evaluated for the 2025 fiscal year.

The Committee also recommended raising the stop-loss from $50,000 to $60,000 for the upcoming fiscal year.

The Supervisors then discussed the Fairchild property and how the County subdivision rule may be impacted.

The question was if changing the lot lines of property would impact the current ordinance for the County zoning into the future.

After consultation, the change to the parcel didn’t impact the subdivision on zoning regulation. However, Mahaska County Supervisors Chair Mark Groenendyk said it appeared to him that the move would put the lot closer to the current rules.

The Board approved payroll changes for the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office and Mahaska County Conservation.

The Board also approved a quote for repairs at one of the county communications tower sites for $1506.86.

The Board then looked at a paving project along Merino Ave that will see a collaboration between the public and private that will help pay for a surfacing project, and the county will maintain it afterward.

Another portion of paving is coming via a USDA grant awarded to Metro Pavers for $864,422.

The Board approved that contract, and work is scheduled to be completed by October.
