At approximately 11:07 am on Friday the 14th of April Oskaloosa Fire Dept. was paged to a reported structure fire at 332 Main Street in Rose Hill, Iowa. Oskaloosa Fire responded with 4 firefighters, and called for all remaining firefighters to report to the station. The first responding truck arrived at approximately 11:21 and reported heavy smoke showing and immediately made entry through the front of the residence. The majority of the fire was in the back portion of the house and crews had the flames knocked down in about 5 minutes. Extra manpower from Oskaloosa arrived along with firefighters from Cedar township fire which had been called for mutual aid. The structure was then cleared of smoke and remaining hot spots were extinguished and crews made sure there was no extension of fire. Last remaining crews cleared the scene shortly after 3:00 pm. No one was home at the time of the fire and there were several animals that perished in the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Oskaloosa firefighters were assisted on scene by members of the Cedar Township Fire Dept. Mahaska Co. Sheriff’s dept. and the Mahaska Ambulance and Mahaska Co. 911.
The Red Cross is currently assisting the occupant of the home.
