Young Claims Two Heart Weekly Awards
Oskaloosa–Alyssa Young (Sr., Winter Springs, Fla., Biology) was a force on both sides of the net last week and was rewarded for her efforts by being named both Heart of America Athletic Conference Women’s Volleyball Attacker and Defender of the Week Monday.
A first-time recipient, Young helped the Statesmen (17-13, 10-6 Heart) to a 3-1 record and the current top spot in the North Division.
The senior posted 52 kills (3.71 per set), while attacking at a .396 clip. She also managed 21 blocks (three solos, 18 assists, 1.50 per set).
Her week was highlighted by her first career double-double as she tallied career highs in both kills (18) and blocks (10) against Culver-Stockton last Tuesday.
She then added a 17-kill, eight-block showing versus Benedictine last Friday.
For the year, Young has 229 kills (2.14 per set) to her credit, while hitting .244. The middle hitter has also produced 106 blocks (15 solos, 91 assists) along with 39 digs, 14 assists, and four aces.
The weekly laurels are the first two of the year for WPU.
