Offense Stymied in Setback to Cardinals

by Wade Steinlage

Newton–The Indian boys’ basketball team failed to get going offensively as it fell to Newton 53-31 in Little Hawkeye Conference action last Friday.

OHS (0-3, 0-2 LHC) was outshot 42.3%-27.3% and outrebounded 34-27 in the setback.

Oskaloosa trailed from the start and could not keep pace with the Cardinals, falling behind 24-16 at the break. It, unfortunately, did not get any better for the Indians as they were outscored 29-15 after intermission.

Keaton Flaherty topped the Indians with 15 points in addition to six rebounds and a pair of steals. He proved to be the bulk of OHS’ attack as no one else managed over four points.

Caron Genskow contributed three points, but more notably had five rebounds and a team-high three assists. Waylon Bolibaugh matched Flaherty with two steals.

“Hats off to Newton as they really set the tone for the night,” Head Coach Brandon Lenhart said. “We had a hard time guarding them and had an even tougher time getting easy looks at the basket. We are hoping to bounce back against Washington.”

Next Up: It will be a busy week for the Indians as they play a trio of games, beginning with a home matchup against Washington Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Oskaloosa then visits Norwalk for an LHC bout Friday at 7:45 p.m. before closing the week on the road Saturday versus Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont at 7 p.m.
