Statesmen Compete at Five Seasons Classic

Cedar Rapids–The William Penn women’s bowling team took sixth place out of 13 teams this weekend at the Five Seasons Classic in Cedar Rapids.

Alexis Lake (Jr., Kaysville, Utah, Nursing) led the individual efforts for the Statesmen, finishing in 15th with 916 pins. Destiny Rottman (Sr., Coal Valley, Ill., Digital Communication) was the next highest finisher, taking 30th with 887 pins.

Caitlin Radliff (Fr., Belleville, Ill., Software Engineering) only bowled four games, but turned in a strong 188.5 pin average in her games. Shadyn Bishop (So., Grandview, Iowa, Exercise Science) bowled the final three of the five individual games, totaling 530 pins.

Gabi Evans (Jr., West LIberty, Iowa, Psychology and Sociology) finished just outside of the top 100, turning in a 480 pin day in her three games of work. Rounding out the varsity performers were Evie Roen (Sr., Troy, Mich., Applied Mathematics) and Madison Ross (Jr., Charles City, Iowa, Exercise Science), who knocked down 406 and 304 pins, respectively.

The Statesmen found themselves in eighth place at the end of the first day, but less than 200 pins away from a bracket appearance. After a strong opening game to Baker play, the navy and gold struggled through the rest of the first half of games. They built some momentum for the second half of games, but struggled with consistency as they could not make a sustained run. They still made up some ground in the standings, overtaking two teams to finish in sixth place.

What’s Next: The Statesmen will be back in action in two weeks at the ISYL Leatherneck Classic in Moline, Ill. That tournament will take place on November 13-14.
