Statesmen Earn Third-Place Finish at Columbia 300 Shootout

Indianapolis, Ind.–The William Penn men’s bowling team turned in an impressive showing at the Columbia 300 Shootout over the weekend, taking third place among 29 teams.

For the second straight tournament, Jayson Miner (Sr., Silvis, Ill., Business Management) led the individual performances for the Statesmen, finishing his six individual games with a total pin count of 1,284 pins, good for a game average of 214. His strong showing earned him a second place overall finish in the tournament.

Joining him in the top 10 were Rok Kostric (Sr., Koper, Slovenia, Sports Management) and Brandon Freese (Sr., Marshalltown, Iowa, Software Engineering). Kostric, who placed seventh, knocked down 1,214 pins, averaging 202 per game, and Freese finished just a tick behind him with 1,203 pins and finishing with an average game of 201.

Rounding out the varsity squad were Aleksander Kostric (Sr., Koper, Slovenia, Sports Management) and Ryan Dudley (Sr., Anchorage, Alaska, Business Management). Aleksander knocked over 1,150 pins in his six games, averaging 192 per game, while Dudley averaged 191 across his five games for a total of 953 pins.

The Statesmen finished the six team games on Saturday in second place, only 16 pins out of the first place spot. In the Baker rounds, the Statesmen started off hot, but slowed down in the middle rounds. Although they picked up the pace in the last few games, they dropped one spot in the final rankings, still finishing with a strong third place overall finish.

What’s Next: The Statesmen will have two weeks to rest up before traveling to Cedar Rapids for the Five Seasons Classic on October 30th and 31st.
