Statesmen of the Week Honors to Miner, Johnson

Oskaloosa–Men’s bowler Jayson Miner (Sr., Silvis, Ill., Business Management) and women’s volleyball player Alyvia Johnson (Fr., Owatanna, Minn., Elementary Education) have been named the Statesmen of the Week for the week of October 11-17, presented by Gardner-Collier Jewelry.

Miner placed second at the Columbia 300 Shootout with a 214.0 average in six games. Four of those games were in the 200s with a high game of 244. He paced the Statesmen to a third-place finish in the team standings.

Johnson tallied 26 kills (3.71 per set) last week while hitting .250. She also posted 19 digs with four blocks, two aces, and two assists. Johnson led WPU to a win over #24 Grand View, the program’s first victory in the head-to-head series since 2008, snapping a 19-match losing streak.
