Bedier, Newby Take April POM Awards
Oskaloosa–The William Penn University Athletics Booster Club has announced the recipients of the April Player of the Month laurels.
Sophomore baseball player Tanner Bedier (Bondurant, Iowa, Business Management) earned the Male award, while sophomore women’s track and field athlete Shaniah Newby (Twentynine Palms, Calif., Nursing) claimed the Female honor. The accolade is the first for Bedier, while Newby is now a three-time recipient.
In 17 games, Bedier hit .481 (26-for-54) with nine doubles, two triples, and one home run. He drove in 11 runs and scored 16 times as well, while posting a .525 on-base clip (four walks, one hit-by-pitch). Bedier tallied nine multi-hit performances and managed a base knock in 13 contests.
Newby won three event titles over the span of two meets. Her month was highlighted by breaking the school record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.27 seconds. The sophomore also posted a season-best time 100-meter dash time of 12.35 seconds and helped the 4×100-meter relay team to a victory with a season-best 49.33 seconds.
