March 20, 1931 – April 12, 2020
Oskaloosa, Iowa | Age 89

Mary Beth Lindahl Roovaart, 89, of Oskaloosa was at home when she peacefully passed from this life on Sunday, April 12, 2020. She was born March 20, 1931, in Sidney, Nebraska, the daughter of Walter Ivan and Marie Cynthia (Marshall) Robinson.

At a young age Mary moved with her family from Nebraska to Evanston, Illinois. She graduated from Evanston Township High School. Mary attended one year of college at Kendall College in Evanston.

On August 25, 1950, she was united in marriage to Reed Lindahl in Evanston. To this union three children were born, Sherri, Kevin, and Kimberly.

Following their marriage, Reed entered the United States Military and served in the Korean War. While Reed was away serving our country, Mary worked various jobs to help support her family. Upon Reed’s return Mary focused on caring for her family and home. The family welcomed many foster children and in-home daycare children into their home over the years. In 1977, the family moved to Oskaloosa and Mary worked in the kitchen at Vennard College in University Park. She enjoyed interacting with the students and providing for them. She retired from there in the mid 1980’s.

On March 28, 2011, Reed died, however Mary stayed in their home in Oskaloosa. On June 29, 2013, Mary was united in marriage to Lyle Roovaart at the Friends Church in New Sharon. With this marriage, Mary welcomed Lyle’s children and grandchildren into her family.

She was a member of the Gateway Church of the Nazarene in Oskaloosa. When her children were young and involved in Girl Scouts and Awana, she served as a leader in those organizations. She enjoyed reading, crafts, baking, and gardening. She enjoyed decorating and redecorating her home. It was not uncommon for a piece of furniture to be moved several times before she found were it “belonged”.

Her family includes her husband Lyle of Oskaloosa; three children: Sherri (& Howard) Ledford of Winterville, Georgia, Kevin (& Barb) Lindahl of Poplar Grove, Illinois, and Kimberly (& Jim) Anderson of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; eight grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Reed Lindahl, Mary was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Robert Robinson and Richard Robinson; and a sister, Donna Summers.
