Valentines For Veterans
Oskaloosa, Iowa – In the middle of January, members of the community sat down to share their creativity, and appreciation for those active service members of the military.
With marker and scissors, stickers and glue, heartfelt creations appeared on paper, but it’s the message given that really stands out.
Oskaloosa American Legion Post Commander Darrin Alderson said that some of the cards are sent off to active duty personnel, while some will find their way to local nursing homes, and what is left is then taken to the Veterans Home in Marshalltown.
Alderson talked about the cards and messages the kids share. “Oh, it’s interesting to watch and see the cards they make. A lot of them have some type of military tied to their family, whether it be an uncle or grandfather or dad or a mom, that serves in the National Guard or actively serving. [The] kids have a way to relate, and the message they put on the cards is very gratifying.”
