Grace Quilters Donates to Mahaska Health Serenity House

MAHASKA COUNTY – The holidays can be a stressful time of year, but for those grieving the death or terminal illness of a loved one, the strain is often much greater. The Mahaska Health Serenity House provides Hospice services to our community through some of the most challenging times of life. To continue our mission of providing compassionate care to people with progressive and life-threatening illness and supporting their families, we rely on the generosity of the community.

Grace Quilters donated more than a dozen quilts to the Serenity House that will be used to give patients a warm and comfortable stay. Kim Stek, Hospice Services Coordinator shared, “We are so thankful for our volunteers and the donations we receive. The love and time that goes into the quilts is such a blessing to people.” Ruth Moore, a regular attender of Grace Quilters added, “We’re a fun group of ladies who enjoy some quilting girl-time as well as serving our community. In fact, the late Barb Van Haaften, who received such wonderful care in the Serenity House, had a part in making nearly all of the donated quilts. We miss her very much.”

Grace Quilters meet on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church from 9a.m. – noon, and takes donations of fabric and polyester batting.
