William Penn Swept by Clarke

Dubuque–William Penn women’s volleyball team was on the road Tuesday as they took on inner-state conference foe Clarke.

The Statesmen (8-11, 3-7 Heart) came into the Heart of America Athletic Conference match playing some good volleyball over their last three matches, coming out with two wins and taking a set from #7 Grand View. Unfortunately, they were unable to keep that momentum going as they were swept by Clarke (15-5, 4-3 Heart) in straight sets with the scores of 25-19, 25-16, and 25-19.

The offense struggled to get into a rhythm as they hit .092 in the setback. They did, however, get quality performances from Corrin Lepper (So., Jefferson City, Mo., Exercise Science), who finished with a team-high nine kills, Danielle Pendzinski (Sr., Winnebago, Ill., Elementary Education), who collected seven kills while hitting at a .294 clip, and Cecily Liphardt (Fr., Lincoln Neb., Psychology), who also finished with seven kills. Annalise Whitcomb (Jr., Humboldt, Kan.) was key to her teammates’ success as she contributed 21 assists.

Cameryn Campbell (Jr., Jefferson City, Mo., Education) stood out on the defensive end as she tallied 12 digs.

Next Up: The Statesmen will stay in Iowa, traveling to Cedar Rapids to play Mount Mercy on Friday with the match scheduled to begin at 7 pm.
