Cold Bats And A Controversial Call Ends Indians Title Hopes
A controversial call at the plate ended an extra innings game and the hopes of the Indians for another state title.

Oskaloosa suffered a heartbreaking loss in extra innings 3-2 to number three ranked North Scott in the Class 4A Quarterfinals of the State Softball Tournament in Fort Dodge Tuesday.
Osky held a 2-0 lead into the sixth inning when with two outs, North Scott rallied with a single, and a walk, followed by a two-run double by Rachel Anderson, that went just off the glove of Sophia Dykstra in right field to tie the game.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Lancers scored the game-ending run on a controversial call at home plate.
Kinsey Newman led off the eighth with a single, then an error and an intentional walk loaded the bases with one out. Sam Lee hit a fly ball to center field that was caught by Maleah Walker. Newman tagged from third trying to score when Walker threw a perfect ball to Meghan Moorman at the plate. It appeared Moorman tagged Newman out, but she was called safe at home, and the Lancers got the 3-2 win.
Oskaloosa came out ready to play both offensively and defensively as the Indians scored two runs on three hits in the top of the first inning. Moorman led off with a single, then with two outs, Abby Braundmeier ripped an RBI double scoring Macie Krier who was running for Moorman.

Braundmeier then scored on an RBI single from Maddie Haines putting Osky ahead 2-0. North Scott led off the bottom of the first with a triple to the left-field corner, but the next batter popped up a bunt down the first baseline that was caught by Ava Vandewall, who then fired over to third to get the double play as Robertson tried to get back to the bag and the Lancers didn’t score.
Oskaloosa led off the second inning with an infield single from Taylor Wills. North Scott then brought in Lewis Drew to pitch in relief of Ashlynn Shannon, and she was fantastic retiring the first 13 batters she faced into the sixth inning. Shannon sat down 20 of the 22 batters she faced to get the win.
Hayle Hacker suffered the loss pitching eight innings, allowing six hits and three runs, two earned, with four strikeouts and two walks.
Osky scored two runs on four hits but were hitless from the third inning onward.
The Indians committed two errors and stranded three runners. North Scott scored three runs on six hits, committed no errors and stranded five runners.
At the plate, Moorman was 1-4 with a single, while Ashley Kindley was 0-4. Vandewall was 0-2 with a walk, and Braundmeier was 1-2 with an RBI and also reached on a fielders choice. Haines was 1-3 with a single an RBI, and Dykstra was 0-3, while Wills was 1-3 with a single. Kaylee Johnson was 0-3, Maleah Walker was 0-2, and Faith Deronde was 0-1.
Oskaloosa falls to 25-16 on the season and will play D-C-G for the fourth time this season Wednesday at 1 pm in their final game at the State Tournament. Osky beat D-C-G two out of three in the regular season.
