New Summer Staff at the George Daily!

OSKALOOSA, IA— Alongside the George Daily Youth Theatre’s twentieth anniversary comes our largest education staff ever! Joining Education Director, Andy McGuire, and Lead Teacher, Allison McGuire this year are Sasha Nagorny, Abbey Danowsky, Marina Flores, Cailyn Sales, and Lissa Newendorp. Get to know our new staff members!
Sasha Nagorny is a graduate of Oskaloosa High School (’18) and is currently studying Violin Performance and Musical Composition at Iowa State University. He is expected to graduate in 2022. Sasha is returning for his 2nd year as a Youth Theatre camp counselor through the Musco Summer Internship Program and is most excited for this year’s Wizards in Crisis Camp. He wants to be an example of leadership to the campers. He has been hard at work these last few weeks getting the Auditorium ready for camp and designing “The Grid” painted on the mainstage.
Abbey Danowsky is a graduate of Sigourney High School (’17) and is currently studying Vocal Performance, Textiles and Apparel, Spanish, and French at the University of Northern Iowa. She is expected to graduate in 2021. She has been involved in UNI operas and theatre productions. She was co-chair of the model committee for UNI’s Catwalk 26. Abbey is also part of the Musco Summer Internship Program and is excited to join the George Daily Youth Camps this summer as a counselor. Abbey brings her knowledge of fashion and costuming to share with campers this summer. She is most excited to teach campers how to use a sewing machine.
Marina Flores is joining us for her first year as a Youth Theatre counselor. Originally from Pasadena, CA, she has a passion for music and a love of theatre. She brings a knowledge of costuming, education, and music with her to the George Daily Youth Theatre. After graduating from Pasadena City College with an A.A. in Business Administration, she transferred to Graceland University in Lamoni, IA and received her degree in Communication. Marina will continue her education at William Penn University this fall studying Music Education. She is currently an Associate at Tri-County Schools in Keswick, IA and teaches vocal lessons at Oskaloosa’s Music Square in Penn Central Mall. Marina is excited to bring her teaching experience and love of music to this summer’s campers.
Cailyn Sales is a graduate of Davis County High school (’17) and joins us for her first year working with the George Daily Youth Theatre. Cailyn is currently a Theatre and Communications Studies major at Central College in Pella, IA and is expected to graduate in 2021. She has interned at Gateway Dance Theatre where she worked as a Promotional Intern. She has studied directing during her time at Central and is excited to bring her experience to the Youth Theatre campers.
Lissa Newendorp is a graduate of Oskaloosa High School (’17) and is currently earning her B.A. Theatre Double Emphasis in Design and Production and Theatre for Youth at the University of Northern Iowa. She is expected to graduate in December of 2020. Lissa has been involved with many productions at UNI as Scenic Designer, Carpenter, Run Crew, and more. This summer, she will be focused on designing and building the set of the upcoming 2-Week Production. Lissa worked with the George Daily last year during the production of “Home Again” as Stage Manager. She is excited to bring her scenic design experience and construction skills to the Youth camps this year. After working on our set, Lissa will spend her summer with the Sturgis Youth Theatre in Cedar Falls.

Discounts are available for campers returning throughout the summer and for families with multiple campers. Financial aid is also available and should be discussed on a case-by-case basis with the Education Director.
