What Cheer, Iowa | Age 89

Maxine Dugger, 89, of What Cheer, died Monday, November 27, 2017 at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney. Maxine Louise Dugger was born March 4, 1928 in What Cheer, Iowa, the daughter of Walter Rayburn Fuller and Margaret White Shirlaw.

Maxine was a 1946 graduate of the What Cheer High School.

On June 6, 1948 Maxine was united in marriage to her best friend, Karl Dugger, at the What Cheer Methodist Church.

Maxine was a farm wife and a homemaker but the job she took the most pride in was being a mother. Maxine was quick to scold her children if they messed up, however she was even quicker to praise them when they earned it. Giving her children a proper education was important to Maxine. That is why every chance she had she saved little by little and was able to pay for her children’s education.

Maxine enjoyed cooking and canning for both family and friends. She was an extremely hard worker. One summer Maxine canned over 1000 quarts. And even though Maxine had to play the “Bad Cop” and Karl was the “Good Cop”, her children very well knew Maxine was more protective then a mother grizzly.

Maxine is survived by her children: Bob (& Janice) Dugger of What Cheer; Barbara German of Zephyrhills, Florida; Mike (& Lisa) Dugger of Lake Mills, Iowa; and Mark (& Deanna) Dugger of Wayland, Iowa; her grandchildren: Megan (& Zach) Schultz, Sarah German, Alison Dugger, Stephanie Dugger, Charlie Dugger, Keith (& Keely) Dugger and Morgan (& Bryton) Pickard; and four great granddaughters: Reace Thomas, McKenna Schultz, Molly Schultz, Vera Schultz.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Karl Dugger; and her granddaughter, Molly Dugger.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am on Friday, December 1, 2017 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in What Cheer.
Burial will be in the Indianapolis Cemetery near What Cheer.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.
