Barry J. Stark, 52, of Grinnell died November 28, 2010, at his home, after a lengthy battle with brain cancer which was diagnosed on December 4, 2009. A funeral service has been scheduled for 1:30 Wednesday, December 1, 2010, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Grinnell with Pastor Don Johnston officiating. Music will be provided by Teresa Thompson organist, Deb Lombard pianist, Jared Johnston vocalist and Rob Clower bag piper. Pallbearers will be Allen Dean, Randy Ives, Jared Johnston, Craig Lombard, Norm Miller, Andrew Sutton, and Dennis Thompson. Honorary bearers will be members of the Awana T & T Boys. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell and where the family will be present from 5:00 to 8:00 Tuesday evening. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Barry Stark Memorial Fund.

Barry was born September 18, 1958, in Seville, Spain, the son of Russell and Joan Wilson Stark. He moved with his family to Grinnell in 1967 and was a 1977 graduate of Grinnell High School.

On June 30, 1979, he was united in marriage to Terri Johnson, in Grinnell. The couple made their home in Grinnell and he was employed with Midwest Manufacturing in Kellogg for 32 ½ years. He retired in 2009. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church where he was active as a leader with Awana’s. He received Christ as his personal savior on September 21, 1993.

Barry enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed restoring cars and trucks, riding his Harley Davidson, breakfast at Westside Diner and sitting with family and friends by the fire. He held a passion for reciting scripture and listening to Christian music.

Survivors include his wife Terri of Grinnell; five children Sarah (Kevin) Michaels of Joliet, Illinois, Amy (Eric) Van Weelden of Sully, and Megan, John and Leslie Stark of Grinnell; two grandchildren Ashlyn Van Weelden and Andrew Michaels; his parents Russ and Joan Stark of Grinnell; one brother Glen (I-Ping) Stark of Scotts Valley, California; one sister Susan (Scott) Anderson of Grinnell; his father and mother-in-law Neil and Pat Johnson of Grinnell; his sister and brother-in-law DeNeil and Kelly Moes of Kellogg; one nephew Tannor (Kristin) Smith; two nieces Heather Anderson and Haylee (Joey) Pagliai; and one great-niece Lilly Smith. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
