3 GRINNELL PLAYERS EARN SPOTS ON ALL-MIDWEST CONFERENCE SOUTH BASEBALL FIRST TEAM

GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College had three players earn spots on the 2013 All-Midwest Conference South Division Baseball first team.

Third baseman Kainoa Inafuku ’14 earned All-MWC South honors for the second year in a row, while pitcher Jason Ormond ’13 and first baseman Walker Bell ’15 were first-time selections.

Ormond, from Chicago, Ill. (Whitney M. Young), led the MWC in ERA at 2.35 and was second in runs allowed with 21. He also ranked among the top six in opponent batting average (.247), walks allowed (nine) and hits allowed (46). He had a 4-3 mark on the season.

Inafuku, from Waipahu, Hawaii (Kamehameha Schools), was Grinnell’s leading hitter with a .344 batting average. He had five doubles, scored 25 runs and knocked in 20 runs while compiling an on-base percentage of .406. He also stole seven bases.

Bell, from Newberg, Ore. (Newberg), ranked second on the Pioneers’ team with a .331 batting average and was ninth in the MWC with 35 RBIs. He had 10 doubles, two homers and tied a Grinnell school record with six hits in a game against Knox College. Defensively, Bell ranked second in the MWC in chances (341), putouts (313) and double plays (23).

Cornell College’s Zach Rogers and Knox College’s Caleb Weaver shared MWC South Positional Player of the Year honors, while Paul Mills of Knox was tabbed Pitcher of the Year. Knox’s Jami Isaacson collected Coach of the Year honors.

In the North, Ripon College’s Adam Grambow was named Positional Player of the year and Brett Nohr of St. Norbert College earned Pitcher of the Year honors. Ripon’s Eric Cruise was named Coach of the Year.
