(NEW SHARON) – Attorney and Mayor, Dustin Hite announced today he will be seeking election to the Iowa House in District 79 which includes the western half of Mahaska County and portions of Marion County.

Hite grew up in rural Mahaska County outside of New Sharon and graduated from North Mahaska High School. He went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in history, economics and social science from Central College in Pella and then graduated from Law School at the University of Iowa. Today he is a Partner at the Heslinga, Dixon & Hite Law Firm where he has a general practice. He has served as the Mayor of New Sharon since 2012 and is the city attorney for several local small towns.

As a local attorney and small town mayor, Hite will bring a wealth of experience to the Legislature. “I look forward to representing the citizens of Mahaska and Marion Counties in the Iowa House,” said Hite. “Having worked with the constituents of the district when it comes to their personal lives as an attorney and on the municipal level as mayor, I understand what’s important to them and will work to serve them well at the Capitol in Des Moines; I’ll aim to improve the business climate, protect our families, and focus on good government that works for the people.”

Hite has a lengthy history of community service. He served on the Mahaska County United Way Board (including stints as President, Vice President, and Treasurer), the Iowa Judicial District 8A Judicial Nominating Commission, and on the North Mahaska School Improvement Advisory Committee. Currently he serves on the Mahaska County Magistrate Nominating Commission, he is the Chairman of the Mahaska County 911 Board, and also serves on the Mahaska County Emergency Management Commission. Hite and his wife, Kate have two young daughters. The family attends St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oskaloosa.
