Main Street Young Ambassador Contest winners were announced in a gala event at the Penn Central Mall Monday evening. The announcement came following entertainment by Mrs. Clause of the North Pole. Local children ages three through kindergarten were competing to become this year’s Young Ambassadors.

Local merchants sponsored the children’s canisters. Money placed in the canister was considered votes. This year the winners are Elyse Lamb, daughter of Stacey & Jeremiah Lamb; and Damion Clark, son of Chris & Samantha Clark.

Over $1,500 was collected from the contest. This year, proceeds will go toward a donation for SONshine (preschool), with the balance to defray costs of the Main Street Lighted Christmas Parade. Those participating in addition to Elyse and Damion included Ashtyn Slechta, Ava Ridenour, Breauna Fenton, Elizabeth Powell, Gracie DeRonde, Karly Grubb, Kelsey Alderson, Macy Gist, Aidan Graham, Brennan McCain, Cael Butler, Carter Koffman, Hayden DeVore, Jaden DeRonde, Payton Beason, Payton Snyder & Tremayne Hardwick. All received a bag full of gifts from local merchants and were invited to help spread the magic of Christmas by riding on the Clow Train in the Lighted Christmas Parade “Christmas in the Heartland”, Thursday & Friday, December 2 & 3. See you at the Parade!

All participants of the Young Ambassadors Contest were introduced by Master of Ceremonies, Steve Shetler of KBOE radio and music was provided by Bob Allen of KBOE. Mrs. Claus (Judy Phillips owner of Wood N Stuff) provided Christmas Stories for the children. Many thanks to Diane Green who organized this event. Her time and effort in making this a special event is greatly appreciated.

I asked Diane Green about the nights event. “Great promotion for little kids. We have very generous sponsors here in Oskaloosa”
