Yoeuy Poam, 80, of Oskaloosa, died Friday, December 7, 2018, at MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. He was born January 1, 1938, in Cambodia, the son of Dom and Same Lit Poam.

Yoeuy completed school in Cambodia.

On January 6, 1979, he was united in marriage to Siemy Chu in Cambodia. On December 19, 1980, they were resettled as refugees to Oskaloosa.

Yoeuy was a welder at Clow Valve in Oskaloosa for 5 years. Then he went to work at Vermeer in 1987 and retired from there in 2002.

Yoeuy loved to travel, watch action movies with his family and work in his gardens. He has a large family all over the world, he and Siemy traveled extensively visiting family and friends. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa.

Yoeuy’s family includes his wife Siemy; his children: Kim Suon Noeuy (& Sareap) of Des Moines, Kim Poam Logan (& Jeff) of Urbandale, Kim Seang Poam (& Phallen) of Atlanta, Georgia, and Vichet “Pete” Poam (& Mik) of Zeeland, Michigan; fourteen grandchildren: Stacy Noeuy Lovan (& Vathana), Louise Valin (& Justin), Buntoen Noeuy (& Champey), Buntan Noeuy, Lily and Mitchell Logan, Phalleen, Phalleya, Seng Lii, and Seng Lane Poam, Maleena, Chet and Eva Darling Poam; eleven great-grandchildren: Anthony, Mason, Ethan and Julianna Lovan, Elizabeth and Abby Pongxayvong, Evelyn, Alvin, and Eloise Valin, Connor and May Neouy; four brothers: Pam Yoth (& Neoun) of Canada, Pam Kim Houn (& Chhoeung) of Seattle, Washington, Pam Han Henry (& Phat Sophia) of Chicago, and Pam Kim Hak of Cambodia; four sisters: Pam Sot of Cambodia, Pam Kim Heun (& Neam Vet) of Cambodia, Pam Kim Huot of Chicago, and Pam Sara of Des Moines; step mother, Oung Loun of Chicago; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by both parents and a brother Yath.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 pm on Friday, December 14, 2018, in the Bates Funeral Chapel.
Memorials may be made to First Christian Church.
