Oskaloosa, Iowa – It’s spring-time but the trees are wearing sweaters!

FACE of Mahaska County along with the Oskaloosa Art Center took to the square this past week to help add some color and creativity to the community with a yarn-bomb event.

Sarah Kargol was one of the many creative people who was kicking off the ‘Arts in April’ events. All month long, the Oskaloosa Art Center will be hosting many different programs to help individuals celebrate and grow their artistic talents.

Besides the square, the group descended upon the Oskaloosa Public Library and other establishments who helped them procure the needed materials. “It’s a showcase of knitted or crochet work,” said Kargol of the now sweater clad trees.

Charlene Ryan worked as a major organizer of the yarn bombing that will be soon making its way onto the recreation trail. Kargol said of Ryan, “We couldn’t have done it without her!”

Ryan worked for months in advance to prepare for this month’s yarn bombing fun. Ryan went out to the potential locations, measuring every tree, making each piece specific to that tree or object. “She’s been amazing,” said Kargol.

You can catch up with all the activities taking place this month by visiting the Oskaloosa Art Center Facebook PAGE or the Face of Mahaska County Facebook PAGE.
