WPU Takes Ninth at Siouxland Invite
Orange City, Iowa / Sioux Center, Iowa–The William Penn women’s golf team continued its fall campaign in the northwest corner of the state at the Siouxland Invitational Tuesday and Wednesday.
WPU placed ninth out of 14 teams with a two-round score of 692 (345-347), while Morningside topped the field at 628 (322-306).
The first round was played at Landsmeer Golf Course, while the second 18 holes were played at The Ridge Golf Course.
Allison Meyerink of Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) paced the 87-player field at 147 (74-73).
Amelia Meador (Sr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Kinesiology) was William Penn’s top linkster, tying for 21st at 163 (84-79). The senior finished with four birdies during the event.
“Amelia had a standout tournament,” Graduate Assistant Coach Saya Schweitzer said. “We are incredibly proud of her leadership, consistency, and the way she competed from start to finish.”
A pair of 85s (total score of 170) for Chloe Jacques (So., Chatham, Ontario, Political Science) placed her 40th at the Invitational.
“Chloe also put together a very solid showing, handling the transition between courses brilliantly, and continuing to show great growth in her game,” Schweitzer said. “We are excited to watch her build on this positive momentum moving forward.”
Ashlynn Long (Fr., Reno, Nev., Exercise Science) was next as she carded a score of 90 on both Monday and Tuesday for a final score of 180 that tied her for 50th. She recorded two birdies during the week.
Emma Kipfer (Fr., Albia, Iowa, Business Management), in 61st at 188 (95-93), and Olivia Quail (So., South Lyon, Mich., Sport Management), in a tie for 62nd at 189 (86-103), wrapped up the team scoring. Kipfer had two birdies, while Quail had one.
Gabriella Honesto (Jr., Lubbock, Texas, Kinesiology) played as an individual and tied for 62nd overall at 189 (94-95). She tallied one birdie.
“Every one of our ladies showed determination from the first tee to the final green, across both venues,” Schweitzer said. “While we know there is still plenty of work to do, we are proud of their willingness to compete, learn, and support each other. We will get back to work this week as we prepare for our next event.”
Next Up: William Penn travels to Marshall, Mo. next Monday and Tuesday to compete in the Missouri Valley Invitational. Play will be contested at Indian Foothills Golf Course.
