WPU Sixth in Preseason Poll

Oskaloosa–The Statesmen men’s lacrosse team has yet to hit the field, but has already turned some heads as the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll was released Friday.

The KCAC’s 11 coaches have picked William Penn to be sixth overall with 45 points. One of the skippers has been so impressed with the navy and gold that the program has collected one first-place vote.

Benedictine and Missouri Valley are tied atop the standings with 66 points apiece. The teams have earned their points in very different ways, however, as BC has a league-best five first-place votes, while MVC did not receive any top nods.

Columbia is third with 64 points and two first-place ballots, while Missouri Baptist (56) and Ottawa (51) are also ahead of the Statesmen.

St. Ambrose (43), Midland (33), Clarke (29), Morningside (16), and Saint Mary (Kan.) (9) complete the poll. Midland, despite owning the #8 spot, did notch one of the first-place votes.

William Penn will open the inaugural campaign February 22 as it travels to Southfield, Mich. to face #5 Lawrence Tech at 4 p.m. (Central) The Statesmen begin KCAC action March 14 with a trip to St. Louis, Mo. to face Missouri Baptist at 1 p.m. The team’s first home game is March 21 against Clarke at 3 p.m.
